another "big day" come and gone

so, i usually like to keep this little glimpse into my life pretty light and witty, but i'm feeling a little low and i thought i'd share that with you. it doesn't really make any sense to do such a thing, but i've seen others do it and its worked for them so here goes...sunday was the 29th time i celebrated my birth into this world. i received 4 phone calls, 3 of them consisting of family members. thanks, larissa by the way. you made my otherwise mediocre day. side note-isn't it sad that you reach about 23 and suddenly, birthdays don't really consist of presents and parties and instead are just mostly full of the day to day humdrum stuff you do anyway? maybe that's just me, but anyway...i got a text message or two that night and then went to sleep and woke up to another day which i'm sure was someone else's birthday, but for me, it was just the day after mine. the day that made me realize the point of this rambling post, which is that i've failed as a friend. i guess my severe deficiency in keeping in contact with people has led to their lack of remembering my birthday. it was a sad, sad discovery (there is a better word for what it was, but i'm suffering from a harsh case of pregnancy brain at the moment), but one that will hopefully motivate me to be a better friend. so, to all of you whoe read this blog, thanks for doing so and i will try to recognize all of the exciting happenings in your lives...including the day that only comes once a year for you and should be a very happy day and one that you don't have any worries but to feel special. happy birthday everybody! thanks for checkin in

I love this post. My sister asked me what I did on my birthday, and I said "mostly worked" and she said "yeah, on your birthday you still get to change the poopy diapers." I did get quite a few facebook messages though, haha.

Your entitled to your feelings but you've been a great friend to us. :) I can't say the same for myself, as I didn't even realize it was your birthday. Think about it, without you, N and I would have no Bones, no Burn Notice, and no Elmo (haha, maybe we're not grateful for that one).

Hi Tara:) In case you don't know who "N" is, well, it's, me, Natalie. I need to change that...it looks too paranoid. Anyway, I'm sure once or twice upon a time, you told me when your b-day was, yet, I am one of those people that didn't call, email or text:( Sorry and Happy Belated Birthday! So, I need to remember that the week of September 15th-17th are significant days (your's,Adam's sister's, Adam's, and my sister's).
I totally get your drift about lame birthdays after 23ish. My 17th was the pits (it couldn't live up to sweet 16, though I couldn't fathom why not).
Blah blah blah. Anyway, I miss you guys and will be glad when you get home! Hope you're having fun and eating at Cafe Rio whenever possible!

Happy Birthday Tara! I want you to know that I did remember your birthday a day late because I was in Texas on your birthday and really unaware of the date while I was there. I did not, however, call or text or email and I apologize. Sometimes life gets in the way and we don't always get the little things done. I love ya bud! Take care of yourself and I will likewise try to do better remembering and acting on things such as friends' birthdays. Thanks for the words of encouragement you left me too!

Wah! I wish I were a better cousin! Er, I mean, the card probably got lost in the mail...nine-r...

I'm really glad to be connected via blogging--it is seriously my only outlet to the world these days--even my next-door-neighbors! So you just keep postin' and commentin' and I'l do the same and soon we'll be BFF like you wouldn't believe. Watch out family reunion '09!

Hey Tara,
You know I definitely can't tell you how to feel, but I wish you wouldn't beat yourself up so much. No matter whether I see when you are in town or not or if you remember or forget my birthday, I will still always love you and be super excited to hear from you when I do. I know you love me and I love you. I think you've been a great friend to me and I hope to be the same for you. Here's to another great year for a great girl!

Hey Tara, good to hear from you! I read your post, and yes, I TOTALLY know what you mean. I suck at keeping in touch... big time. This year my biggest New Year's resolution was to get a birthday card out in the mail to each of my 11 nieces and nephews, as well as my sisters and my parents. So far I've been able to do it for each one and it has definitely made the year lots more fun. Plus, BONUS, they all remembered mine! I guess what goes around comes around, eh?

Maybe I should try and extend this resolution to friends next year... could you imagine? Getting a card in the mail from a friend? Does that even happen anymore? Anyways, I hope you got to do something fun for your birthday and here's to another year of life! Woohoo!

Dear Homey,
You know I love you no matter what and I appreciate you reminding us all that we need to be more conscious of maintaining friendships. I think it is especially important for you and I to keep in contact because #1 we are so rad and #2 we have known each other for so long! I'll put your birthday on my calendar for next year, but until then let's share a few fun details about our lives. I'll start-I've gone on a few first dates finally! No keepers yet!

Hey, I would have called if you hadn't planned your birthday so close to that darn hurricane we had here. I know...lame excuse, but I love you nonetheless. Be happy.

I love ya, buddy! I need to be better with keeping in touch too. I hope I can see you while you are here.

Happy Birthday! A little late, but I mean it with all my heart. I always say that it's your birthday all month long, so you can still celebrate! Trust me, Carl gets really tired of that, but it makes it fun and gives you an excuse to do whatever you want your whole birthday month:)

Have fun!
